Aigis story: Liza & Takis' Vision behind Kea Island's Boutique Hotel
Liza Morfoniou and Takis Aspiotis, the creators and souls of this very destination boutique hotel in Kea, are taking care of, from the smallest detail to satisfy every desire of yours that will make your escape unique and once in a lifetime experience.
‘’It took countless hours of work, many craftsmen from different places of Greece and endless hours of organization in order to create Aigis Suites, which is visible in every corner. Rocks were carved, furniture was designed, gardens were created until we reached its current image that justifies us. Beyond our own passion, many of our good friends/family also contributed to the final result, you can enjoy today.’’
Alekos Fassianos, the renowned Greek painter, honored his eight-year friendship with the Aspiotis family in 2007 by becoming the artistic godfather of this new boutique hotel in his beloved Kea island. He designed the logo and named it ‘Aigis,’ which in Greek means ‘under the care/protection.’ Fassianos knew the Aspiotis family would create a unique place that embodies Greek hospitality, balancing luxury with simplicity, using earthy materials, and celebrating local culture and traditions, all of which influenced his own artistic creations.
The alphabet of hospitality starts with the greek word of love ‘ΑγαπΏ’ that begins with the letter A and finishes with the letter Ω.
The story of Aigis Suites began as a family-run venture, initially intended for just 40 days of work and pleasure at a magical beach on Kea Island. Over time, it grew into a beloved destination, offering guests the experience of attending a lively gathering at a friend’s seaside home.
As our kids grew older, they asked for a place to hang out, so we created the Afro (Foam) Cocktail Bar. This cozy, all-day bar is known for its great music and a relaxing atmosphere, perfect place to unwind.
After 17 years of love for the Kea island, we celebrated our anniversary by passing the iconic “T’Astra” beach bar to the next generation. This moment marked the birth of Aigis, our own fairytale of hospitality. In just nine months, a unique cottage with a bohemian-chic ambiance was created, completing the dream we had for Aigis.
Our desire to create through music, flavors, and sharing the magical panoramic pool view with both old and new friends led to the opening of Aigis Sunset Bar Resto. This Aegean cuisine-focused bar-restaurant offers guests the chance to create memories while enjoying authentic Greek tastes and entertainment in Kea island!
As the years passed, strong friendships were formed with creators, and vast experience was gained across various industries. This led to the creation of Aigis Philosophy—a space where talents can express and recreate, sharing the philosophy of Greek hospitality in their own unique ways. Aigis is more than just luxury accommodation; it’s a holistic, 360-degree experience, driven by knowledge and a passion for authentic hospitality.
